The 180 × 20 mm Waterproof & X-Ray Detectable Plaster by Detectaplast is a professional-grade wound dressing designed for environments where contamination control, hygiene, and safety are critical, particularly in food processing, catering services, industrial kitchens, and food packaging lines. This plaster combines waterproof protection with dual detectability, meaning it can be easily identified visually, by metal detectors, and by X-ray inspection systems. The ability to be detected by X-ray is especially important for products that may be packaged in metallised film or aluminium trays, where conventional metal detection may not be effective, and plants rely on X-ray systems for final inspection. This detectability is achieved by embedding an X-ray detectable thread made from a high-density material such as barium sulphate beneath the wound pad — a technology widely used in medical imaging.

The plaster’s bright blue colour is chosen because it does not naturally occur in most food products, making it highly visible if it becomes dislodged during food preparation or handling; this supports visual checks as part of hygiene protocols. Additionally, an aluminium foil layer under the absorbent wound pad ensures compatibility with standard metal detection systems.

Constructed from a durable, waterproof polyurethane (PU) or similar material, the plaster protects minor cuts, abrasions, and skin injuries from water, dirt, bacteria and viruses while remaining breathable for comfort. A strong hypoallergenic adhesive keeps the dressing securely in place even in wet or high-moisture environments, while the non-adherent absorbent pad ensures comfortable, gentle removal. These plasters typically come in boxes of 100 pieces, and the 180 × 20 mm size is ideal for long-strip coverage on fingers, to wrap around joints, or for extended protection on larger areas of movement.
