Even after a prior Cesarean section, EDA is advocated by German, British, and American professional societies for subsequent attempts at VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean Section). As a perioperative anesthesia technique, the epidural is also favored for the majority of open abdominal surgical procedures. It is the most commonly used anesthesia technique for intensive care patients.
