Rectus sheath blocks have been in use for years. First abdominal field blocks were described in 1899 by Schleich1. With the introduction of ultrasound into Regional anesthesia, many new fascial plane blocks have been introduced, including the rectus sheath block, allowing for improved post-op pain management in abdominal surgeries. Patients with breathing difficulties and conditions such as emphysema or other pulmonary pathologies require the nasal cannula.
